Top Of The World, Moab 3/8/2014
Trail Run: Top of The World
Meeting Point: Dewey Bridge just off UT-128.
Meeting Time: 9:30am trail departure by 10am.
Directions: Take I70 Westbound about 30 minutes into Utah. Take exit 214 (Cisco Exit) Follow US6 for 8 miles take a left onto UT-128 to Dewey Bridge. Trail head is approximately 30 min from I-70.
The trail is approximately 5 miles in length, I believe this is one way. Expect the trail to take 4-5 hours. Lunch at the top if you like.
This is an intermediate trail. A challenge for a stock high clearance SUV but do able.
Pets and Kids are welcome, However I would strongly recommend keeping your pet on a leash, or in the car at the "Top of The World" The trail abruptly ends with a 1300' drop off.
The view will take your breath away and is nothing short of amazing. (It will be worth the long drive, I promise!)
I may camp the night before, depending on temps, you are more than welcome to join me, there is a BLM camp ground on the other side of the road from where we will be meeting near the bridge. It is 15 dollars a night, campsites have fire rings, tables and primitive bathrooms. There is also free camping around the meeting point at dewey bridge that is on BLM land.
I believe there maybe a gas station at the Cisco exit or the exit before. I am not positive. You may want to plan on enough fuel from Grand Junction and Back. (It will be much cheaper anyways)
Please respond to this post if you are going. CB Channel 5, I will PM you my cellphone if you are attending, although there may not be cell service near the trail head.
GPS:
Point 1 N 38°48.65' W 109°18.25' (Trail Head/Meeting Point/Dewey Bridge)
Point 2 N 38°46.21' W 109°14.94'
Point 3 N 38°43.95' W 109°15.75'
Point 4 N 38°43.23' W 109°15.97'
So far probably going:
1: Lucas
2: Possibly a co-worker with his YJ
3: Walt
4: Junction
5: OnlyOne (JK-Forum)
6: OnlyOnes Friend in a CJ-7 (JK-Forum)
7: BFYTW
8: Bfewkwa
I know this is a long way for you front range guys, but coming up Friday and getting a hotel in Junction or camping would be worth it!

Looks like we should have a pretty good turn out! I think its a 50/50 chance if my buddy in his YJ goes. I am confident Walt and grandjunktion will finish the lift project for grandjunktion so hopefully we have at least five, and maybe a few others will join in.

Lucas, that picture you have on the OP, want to do it really RAD?
I'll bring my climbing harness/belt with lanyard, hook the lanyard to the bumper and really lean out. Take the picture so the lanyard isn't seen???

Sounds like a plan! Just as long as your bumper doesn't come apart like the last time I used it! Of course last time I used your bumper it was attached to my Jeep, which was buried in snow.
I think once your up there you may change your mind! But hey sounds like a plan!
Re: Top Of The World, Moab 3/8/2014
I've got a new bumper now. I climb microwave towers - 300 ft or 3000 ft, the result is the same

I'm still debating what to do. Was thinking of heading out to Moab as soon as my kids get out of school Friday afternoon.

I agree if you have never been before and have kids it would be worth spending the weekend if you have time. Even if you don't go out in the Jeep go check out arches or something. I am more than likely still camping the night before. If your coming from the front range it maybe worth grabbing a room in G. Junction, or feel free to camp near the trail head by me.
There should be a few driving over in the Morning, I am sure Walt will be driving over from Parachute, and two out of the Eagle County Area I believe.
Re: Top Of The World, Moab 3/8/2014
Here is my cell phone, I figured this is easier than trying to PM every one 612-810-6602. I will delete it after the run. Please no drunk dialing
Please feel free to give me a call or text if you run into problems on the way or will be late, I can not promise I will have service though. I will have the CB on channel 5. The day of and prior to meeting up.

I will be free that weekend, but I am actually in the middle of lining the jeep right now. I have the prep done, I am just waiting on the weather and my free time to line up to finish. Anyway, if I can finish by next weekend I will be making the trip from Fort Collins. Ideally I would like to camp on Friday and Saturday, and wheel as much as possible.

Re: Top Of The World, Moab 3/8/2014
We decided to make a weekend of it. Since it is our first time out to Moab, I'd like to hit a classic slickrock trail on Sunday, maybe Fins N Things. Not sure how long it takes to run Fins or if we could squeeze in another trail too. Thoughts?

Fins is no sweat. You could do it and tip toe thru Hells Revenge in a day. Highly recommend both for your first trip as they are entry level trails. That is if your tip toeing (bypassing Hells gate, escalator, etc)

Boo! Hey it happens! We will see you on the next one.
Sleeves and gussets are installed, axle is back under the Jeep. Everything seems well so I am all set.

I'll probably camp near the trail Friday night and try to hit another trail on Saturday, then camp in Arches, then maybe hit a trail on the way back out on Sunday morning.
Bfewkwa, what else were you planning on knockin out Saturday?
I'd love to do Fins on Sunday but am not 100% sure what time I have to get back to Fort Collins so I don't know if it's possible just yet..
