Flat Tops 11/16/13
Still working on the photo hosting....
We left Glenwood at about 9am.. starting the trail there was little to no snow, as we climbed the snow got deeper and deeper with some nice mud holes on the way. Finally about 6-7 miles into the trail (A little over 10,000 feet) I finally got stuck in the snow, the trail was slightly off camber and I slid side ways into the deep stuff. I was stuck in the snow up to the frame.
Walt and I worked for about 45 minutes and finally, we got the my Jeep unstuck. The snow was coming down pretty good and we were sure it only got deeper so we turned around and headed back down.
Going back down was even more interesting. The trail was slick with fresh snow and we both took turns sliding our Jeeps back down the trail! Brakes were worthless at times. We managed to make it half way down and out of the snow safely, now the trail was pretty muddy but uneventful.
Despite the trail run ending short we still got about 5 hours of Jeeping in, (Hour of recovery) no major damage, well Walt broke his front bumper, and I broke a tow strap. It was a blast in the snow, and mud!
My MTR's proved not to be the best in snow, even after airing down to 10psi, they still did not float well in the snow, the aggressive tread just wanted to dig. Lockers and snow make things interesting, of course you get more traction, the trade off is when you slide you go sideways. Walt seemed to actually do better with less aggressive tires.
Looking forward to getting back up there in the spring!

Looks like it started to get kind of nasty up there. At least you went in a pair and were able to get unstuck

It was a fun time. A Squirrel with a nut was carefully observing us as we were doing the get unstuck bit.
Didn't realize a tow-strap could do that to steel - found a replacement bumper on Craig's list

Well..... Yeah. It's a jeep. But that whole "we dug in the snow to get unstuck" crap is exactly what happens when snow wheeling. Not my idea of "fun". I'll stick with the snowboard for the white stuff. Hahacoluke wrote:Hibernation! Boo! Its a Jeep!!BFYTW wrote:Yeeeeeaaaah. I don't do that whole snow wheelin thing.
