San Juan Trip August
So if there is any one left around here who would be up for a San Juan Trip in August?
Thinking 08/07 to 08/09. Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Probably running the first trail Friday Morning (Leaving Thursday afternoon).
I know some of you camp and some don't so I would like to set this up so there is the option to rough it or hotel it.

I always want to go, just doesn't always work out! My plans get fouled up so regularly, I don't even bother making them. I hear the Black Bear backwards run is the previous weekend and I'm hoping to get in on that. You got any plan on coming to Rock Junction this year?

I may possibly come back to Rock Junction, 21 Road was a blast the year I ran it at the event. Depending on my work schedule I may try and get in on a couple of the mild trail runs.

Lucas,
You planning to do the whole alpine loop black bear ect? I will see if I can get out of work and make it up there.

I don't have any solid plan yet, but plan to do as much as I can, black bear is at the top of my list.... Just trying to get a good group to go and then see what the consensus is on trails.
Re: San Juan Trip August
Sounds good. I would like to try Poughkeepsie Gulch and run Black bear. I hear the gulch is tough. We have run pretty much all of the loop other than those. It's always a great time!

Can't remember what Poughkeepsie is rated offhand, but think 35s lockers and winch are recommended. Also heard stay off it if wet! I'm registered to run Black Bear backwards on the second, maybe I just need to stay all week and run whatever pleases me! Think we'll be there.

Looks to be a low end of 5 and high of 7. You got that bad Rubi. You won't have any problems. I got a winch. We can make it.
Unless it's raining. Lol

We're still planning on going. Who's camping, and any ideas where?

Who's all in on this still? We plan on bringing our "toy hauler" and camp. Just wondering who and where everyone is looking to stay. Understand Onlyone is moteling it. We can go wherever with our unit. We know of a pretty good spot that's on public ground and has good access if others are interested in camping. It's about 5 miles south of the summit, near the Ophir Pass road. Trailwise, we're up for whatever.

Sounds like a good area to camp, we're bringing our teardrop trailer, so we'll camp with you. Sounds like a good area since it's easily accessible to either Ouray or Teluride. When are you heading out?

It's actually easier access to Silverton. It's about 10 mins to there and not sure how long to the others. It's right at the Ophir pass turnoff on top of red mountain. Our hope is that I'll head up Thursday sometime and set up and heather will leave after work with the jeep. Plan on staying til Monday, but never know what work will require.

Ok. We got a hotel in Montrose and so did Dennis and his wife/kids in their New JKU. We will be there Friday morning. Joel might show up as well. Looking for some nice trails after running Holy Cross a couple weeks ago.

Isn't that a "nice" trail? Haven't heard any talk of trail selection other than Black Bear & Poughkeepsie. Of course, looping on Black Bear is most of a day in itself.

No. It's a mean trail, that was awesome. Lol
I think Heather should take Debbie and that little fella on it.

How far off the pavement is the camping area? We'll probably be heading up there Thurs late afternoon.

100 feet or so. Depends on where you want to set up. We can hopefully get tucked into some trees with a nice flat smooth spot. My plan is to head up Thursday mid day so hopefully I'll be there. Should know more by Wednesday.
