EDIT: Please see below!

11/22 is my first weekend off in what seems forever. Who is up for a trail run? This will more than likely be a mild trail (Have to take it easy until the truck is built up a bit over the winter) It will pretty much be winter so I am thinking something like Onion Creek in Moab, since it is easy, scenic and on the eastern side so you do not have to go all the way into Moab, Onion creek is the trail that runs below top of the world.  Bangs Canyon maybe another option (Closer) Otherwise I am up for ANY suggestions. Looking to do the run that Saturday or Sunday.

We're in either day.
If you want to do Onion then a possibility is DS rd from Junction, cross Dolores River and that comes out by the bridge where we met for TOTW

Walt this was kind of what I was thinking, just need to figure out how long it would take.

It's probably about hour & 1/2 to 2 to get to the bridge. Done it plenty of times. You don't run DS rd the whole way, you turn off at Buckhorn Mesa to get to the river crossing.

There are all kinds of options with this. If we do this and then Onion, if people are needing to get back earlier, they can get back on the hiway, if not can go back across the river again.

Can also take DS Rd to Sheep Creek and into Gateway, it's pretty scenic and good views of Gateway coming down the switchbacks.

Walt I like your ideas.

This is a long shot I am sure, but another idea would be to run the White Rim through Canyonlands (About a 100 miles) , this would be about a day and a half trip. Including camping, Average Temps are 52/28ish.

Could just run part of it.

Im guessing most of you don't find camping at night below freezing enjoyable but if we could get a decent group to go I would arrange for the required permit.

I've done about a 1/3 of White Rim - AWESOME. It's one I want to do but the wife doesn't since it involves camping and she's given me permission so I'm game. Good sleeping bag and thermal underwear make it easily doable. Rather do it in the cold than the heat. Soooo, count me IN if this is what you want to do.

Oh I AGREE with the switchbacks being the fun way, but better to not make assumptions.

I might have a neighbor coming along.

Walt, I think we are usually on the same page Very Happy

I have a buddy that might be riding passenger/coming along as well. Besides the COLD at night I think this should be a pretty fun trip. Just a heads up for you guys, the one downer, is that we can't have a camp fire they do not allow them in the National Parks back country sites... They do allow charcoal fires in a pan for cooking. I will be bringing my son of hibachi grill (Google it, its awesome) and my small propane grill/stove.

What are the camping plans (tent, sleeping in back of truck...)
I don't have a tent, but I do have a (higher end) 10x10 pop-up with walls like what is used at craft fairs.

From the Park Service website:

White Rim Road: open, with caution
The White Rim Road is in rough condition, especially from Murphy Hogback to the western park boundary. It is very likely that vehicles without a 4-Low gear will not be able to complete the loop in its entirety. If you are going to attempt to drive the road in a vehicle that does not have a 4-Low gear, carry extra fuel and be prepared to self-rescue.

This is a good thing, more fun Cool

Sweet I am in the process of installing a CB! I am camping in a tent. I have an extra 2-3 man tent if you need it. I would recommend some sort of sleeping pad
